About Your Instructor
Paul Tidey
My passion is to teach everyone to love and enjoy photography as much as I do by sharing my experience. I genuinely love photography. I like to make sure that people have the right equipment for the job but also to teach people how to get the most out of the equipment they already have. There is so much more to photography than just ‘point and shoot’ and I love teaching the skills required to take a person’s photographs to the next level. With photography there is always something to learn, and you can continually build on your knowledge. After 36 years in this industry, I am still learning.
Our Classes
Fundamental Photography has been educating people in photography since 2011. Paul runs short 4-week
courses on photography and Lightroom, as well as individual private lessons. These courses are ideal for newcomers to the world of digital SLR photography or anyone coming back to photography after a few years. You’ll soon be taking photographs, not snapshots, as you gain a thorough understanding of the photography basics, terminology, and techniques.

Camera Fundamentals
Get a solid understanding of your cameras modes and how to use them to your creative advantage. This short 4-week course is a happy mix of theory and practical.

- Camera maintenance and care
- How to use shutter speeds creatively
- How apertures isolate and storytell
- How to use manual exposure and understanding ISO
- Creative composition, auto focus systems and flash

Lightroom Editing
Learn how to edit, organise, store, and share photos like a professional! Take your love for photography to the next level with this 4-week course. I will help you discover and master the leading photo-processing software from scratch to enhance any photo using simple and dynamic tools. Taking your first steps through exploring the Lightroom interface will allow you to customise settings according to your needs and optimise your workflow.

- How to import photos and create collections
- Creatively retouch and enhance your photos
- Advanced masking functions
- Use vignettes and film grain
- Create panoramas and HDR images
